 This weekend saw our league introduce a new event, the Alan Curtis Scratch Trophy, to be played for annually by only those players who have played for their golf club in the North Durham Union of Golf Clubs league. Whilst we have a strong league membership your executive felt that players would like the opportunity to pit themselves against each other on a strokeplay basis. Outside the County Championships there are few opportunities to do this.

Whilst the number of entries was disappointing we would like to put that down to the conflicting interest of the Ryder Cup rather than the lack of interest from our elite players.

This inaugural event was played courtesy of Southmoor Golf Club to whom we extend our appreciation and thanks. Although the weather of the previous few days forced placing to be imposed the day itself turned out to be extremely pleasant.

The trophy was won by K. Finn of Chester le Street with a gross score of 72 and will be presented at the League’s annual on Friday 22^nd October.
